MOCA Museum

Established in 1979, the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles is the only artist-founded museum in Los Angeles. It is dedicated to collecting and exhibiting contemporary art and houses one of the most compelling collections in the world, comprising nearly 8,000 objects. The museum is widely recognized for its diverse history of groundbreaking and historically significant exhibitions.

MOCA is committed to the collection, presentation, and interpretation of art created after 1940 across all media, as well as to preserving these works for future generations. The institution provides leadership in the field by identifying and presenting the most significant and challenging art of its time, actively supporting the creation of new work, and producing original scholarship.

With two distinct venues in Los Angeles—MOCA Grand Avenue and The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA—along with Double Negative by Michael Heizer in the Nevada desert, the museum engages audiences through an ambitious program of exhibitions, educational initiatives, and publishing.
